Who won the 2011 Steel City / Delmont MX?

Round 11 of the AMA National Motocross Championships at Steel City. It's down to the finale next weekend for the MX Championship between series points leader and Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto v. defending MX Champion and 2010 Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey. Ryan Villopoto won both motos today, Dungey second in both motos. Villopoto has 14 point lead as they head to Pala for final round. Dean Wilson sweeps both motos, and is crowned 2011 AMA National Motocross Champion in the 250 MX Lites class!

Steel City

The facility here at Steel City reminds us a little bit of the facility last week in Southwick, in that the promoter continually makes improvements to an already nice facility. The weather this morning has been perfect - sunny and warm, and somewhat humid.

In timed practice for Motocross Class the top two competitors in the series have the top two quickest lap times! Ryan Villopoto on top with 2 minutes 25 seconds, and Ryan Dungey next at 2 minutes 28 seconds. Last week's winner, Brett Metcalfe was third with 2 minutes 29 seconds. Fourth thru tenth out of the 82 racers attempting to race - Nico Izzi (yes, riding a 450 Yamaha), Justin Barcia, Chad Reed, Mike Alessi, Les Smith, Jake Weimer, and Justin Brayton.

James Stewart’s crash at Indianapolis will prevent him from racing this weekend at Toronto. James has been

under observation over the last few days and has stated that the crash “aggravated a couple old injuries and I’ll need time to fully recover from that”

James will continue to work hard on recovery and will re-evaluate is injuries and race readiness before Houston. But for now he is not ready to compete at the level required. “’I wouldn’t be able push myself at the pace needed to run with the guys out there”

Honda World Motocross team looking forward to British MX Grand Prix race

The Honda World Motocross team is looking forward to this weekend’s race at the picturesque Matterley Basin track in Winchester, UK for round 13 of the MX1 World Championship.

This famous track has a mixture of natural terrain and manmade obstacles, which means this weekend’s Grand Prix of Great Britain is set to be a great event. With Honda Europe being based in the UK, it’s an important race for the Honda World Motocross team, which will be looking to reap strong results.

Following on from another strong performance at the Czech Republic Grand Prix just under two weeks ago, where he finished sixth overall, Rui Gonçalves will be looking to make it four strong races on the bounce at the British event. Last year Gonçalves finished sixth in the opening moto, but after running in the top five he struggled in the second moto re-run and finished 14th with cramps and loss of energy. The Portuguese star will certainly be looking to put that right this year and aiming for two solid motos.

Evgeny Bobryshev missed the race last year after a collision in a Belgian Championship race, which left the Russian with an injury ruling him out of the British Grand Prix. Bobryshev is no stranger to the track though, having raced there at the Motocross of Nations in 2006, and is keen to put on a good show for his British fans, many of which came to knew him during his British title winning year in 2010.

DC Moto TF Ride Day with Josh Hill

In the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship series, Josh Hill consistently found himself on the podium. He ended the season sixth overall in points, in which he finished second in 5 of the 17 Main Events. In July, Josh spent time preparing for the 'Speed and Style' event for X Games 16. His practice session went from 'landing a backflip on his first attempt' to 'under rotating the next time around.' This horrific crash sent Josh to the hospital with a list of injuries and a whole new respect for the sport of Freestyle Motocross. I caught up with Josh, at Pala Raceway for the DC Moto TF Ride day, where he talked about his rehabilitation, his plans for Supercross 2011, and more!

Josh Hill at the DC Moto TF Ride Day

Angela: Hey Josh, you are looking good. How are you feeling?

Josh: Yeah I am getting better, everything is starting to heal up and I am getting to where I can function normally again. So it is getting better, but I need to focus on getting my body stronger. That is my main thing right now.

Loretta's Amateur National Motocross 2012, Friday, by MX Sports and Kawasaki

First, from MX Sports: 24 National MX Champions Crowned Friday at Loretta Lynn's

As the penultimate day of racing comes to a close in the 2012 Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by Amsoil, 24 National Champions were crowned and several others received top honors in their respective classes. In addition to leaving the Loretta Lynn Ranch with a coveted National Championship, riders who topped their class also went home with a Specialized p.series bike, and of course, the Red Bull Sword championship trophy.

Almost all of the day's race action was noteworthy for one reason or another, but arguably the best racing of the day came from Yamaha's Cooper Webb and Honda's Shane Mcelrath in the 250 B Stock final. Heading into Moto 3 the two riders were tied with one race-win apiece, and after a hard fought battle to the end, it was North Carolina's Webb who claimed the class championship over a very tenacious Mcelrath. Both riders have a shot at winning another title tomorrow in the second half of the moto finales.

With a heavy lineup of front-runners in the Junior 25+ class, the final moto was highly anticipated and spectators from all ends of the ranch lined the fences to watch The-Greatest-of-All-Time Ricky Carmichael grab his tenth Amateur National Championship title. It wasn't without a little bit of pressure by 8-Time Amateur National Champion Robbie Reynard, who clinched the eighth title in the Vet 35+ class earlier in the day. Reynard caught and passed Carmichael on the opening lap of the 25+ Moto 3, where he led the G.O.A.T for a couple laps before fading back a bit, ultimately finishing eight seconds behind for second. Mike Sleeter put in a notable ride to finish third in the race and fourth overall, just behind Andrew Matusek in third.
