It’s been a crazy-busy month around here as my daughter wraps up her senior year of high school. As of this writing we are two days away from the actual graduation ceremony, but at this point she has officially completed her required education. She is just plain excited – to be done with high school, to be heading off to college in the Fall, to be entering a new phase of life. I’ve been a little emotional, and honestly it’s hard to explain exactly why – I’m not sad, though this time does indeed signify her passage into adulthood. I’m very, very happy for her, and extremely proud of her… but maybe just a little blue that my role in her life is changing. I’ve had to consciously remind myself that this time is not about me and my emotions – it’s about her, and her accomplishments. And I’m very, very proud of the young lady she has become, so, onward and upward! And congratulations to my beautiful daughter!

(P.S. – her stunning senior pictures were taken by Randy Shebek of Des Moines, Iowa, owner of Great Life Photography. What a wonderful experience it was to work with Randy!)

Behind the Design: Ackerman Tee

Chris-Ackerman-Tee

Help support long time friend of Metal Mulisha, Chris Akerman, who was injured in a riding accident. All proceeds from this tee will go to support Chris!

Learn Chris’ Story: Nine years ago, just before Chris’ 22nd birthday, he was injured in Dumont Dunes, California aboard his Honda CRF 450. They were there on a road trip for MX Machine Magazine and filming for the new Crusty Demons of Dirt video. While there, he happened to be riding at a high rate of speed at the front of a pack of the world’s best Freestyle Motocross Riders and Friends across the base of the Sand Dunes. At the time the light was very flat and he unknowingly went off the back of a blind dune. To put it mildly, it caused him severe injury (Broken Wrist, Dislocated Shoulders, Collapsed Lungs, Shattered Pelvis, Broken Ribs and a C-2 Spinal Cord Injury). Luckily, one of his friends had a Forestry survival Kit and and some others knew CPR and that kept him alive for over an hour and a half until the paramedics arrived. He was then airlifted by an army Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Irwin to Loma Linda University Hospital where he was then in a coma for 3 1/2 weeks. Chris is now permanently on a ventilator at home with a great group of nurses.

Metal Mulisha Dominates Round 7 & 8 of LOORRS

What a huge weekend of Lucas Oil Offroad Racing for the Metal Mulisha team out at Miller Motorsports Park located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This has been the third year held at Millers Motorsports Park, as the pits and stands were packed with a massive fan following of Metal Mulisha troops out to watch the team battle it out in the dirt! The heavy Utah wind didn’t hold back the M/M team from taking over the podium during round 7 & 8 of the 2012 LOORRS championship. Check out this weekends highlights…

LOORRS Round 7 / Saturday:

Todd Leduc Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

Todd Leduc took on the Pro 4 class in some serious style with a fight to the finish, chasing down Renezender and his brother Kyle. Todd moved in early taking a clean line passing the field of drivers. Renezeder was giving it his best shot to chase down Leduc, but Todd wasn’t going make it easy for him or let-up, shaking him off until the competition yellow. With a solid start off the line once again, LeDuc led the pack still holding off Renezender up until turn one, as the checkered flag followed and Todd picked up a very close 2nd place.

Brian Deegan Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

Deegan rolled out onto the track ready to claim the top stop on the podium during the Pro Lite class. Deegan right off the bat was in a all-out assault on the dirt, fighting for fourth and moving into a position, ready to make a move up front. Deegan was chasing down Anderson for second place, and turned the pressure up taking the inside line for the lead! At the competition yellow, Deegan led the pack with teammate Justin Bean Smith trailing behind while picking off the other drivers one by one. Another full course caution came into play, and with just a few laps to go and plenty of carnage, Bean pushed his way past Morris taking the inside line on turn two, moving up to third. Deegan crossed the checkered flag taking 1st place with Justin Bean Smith in 3rd, congrats to you both!

After a full course caution on lap two, Deegan made one of the cleanest textbook passes ever seen for the lead in turn three, and put some distance between himself and the fight behind him! Deegan drove the rest of the race in style, leading up front and passing the checkered flag with a well deserved 1st place finish making this his 25th career Lucas Oil Off Road win.

LOORRS Round 8 / Sunday:

Hailie Deegan Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

After watching her dad sweep the podium the day prior, Hailie ‘Dirt Princess’ Deegan was looking for a strong finish during round 8 in her Junior 2 Kart. With the flag waving green, she held her position waiting for the perfect moment to move in and advance up into the front of the pack. Hailie got tangled up in the carnage while putting up the best fight possible to make it back to the front. Nice job out there Hailie next round the podium is yours!

Todd Leduc Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

Todd Leduc was hungry for that top stop on the podium back on the track in his Pro 4. Todd secured the spot in the top three fight, closing in on the leader. Todd LeDuc, Coyne, and Merrell continued to fight for positions. Todd started to get mechanical issues with his truck overheating, slowing him down but managed to cross the checkered flag taking third place.

Brian Deegan Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

Deegan and Bean where up once again in the Pro Lite class ready to take over the podium for all the Utah fans. The race was intense with Anderson and Deegan traded places as Brian pulled away moving up in the driver lineup. It came down to Deegan and teammate Justin Bean Smith battling it out for Mulisha bragging rights as Deegan swooped up on Smith, taking the inside forcing him to pull wide at turn four giving Deegan the lead. Ryan ‘Fluffer’ Hagy has been on the hunt for the podium this season coming up with impressive times and results during each race. Round 8 was in his favor as the green flagged waved and he kicked things into gear in his Metal Mulisha / General Tire OX Super Lite.

Ryan Hagy Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

It came down to lap two with Fouch, Hagy, Johnson, and Creed shuffling for the lead as Hagy pulled away from the pack. Hagy stepped things up a notch, putting the pressure plate on Johnson in turn three, and taking the third position. Hagy was gunning for Fouch and trying to shake off the rest to hold his placement. For the next three laps, Johnson closed right down on Hagy, taking the inside line. At the halfway mark, the running order was Johnson, Hagy, Kirchner, Rahders, and Britt. Hagy jumped off a good start from the competition yellow holding his ground and finishing the race in 3rd place! Congrats Hagy!

Brian Deegan Metal Mulisha Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series

The last race of the weekend with the fans on their feet, Deegan fired up his Pro 2 ready for another trip to the podium. Brian held his position in the front of the pack, shuffling for a front spot in the carnage and a running order of MacCachren, Ampudia, Renezeder, Deegan, and Clark. On lap 12, though, Renezeder just got into Ampudia coming out of turn four, sending Ampudia sideways across the tops of the whoops, and allowing several trucks to get by. Five or so trucks then piled into the next corner, where Greg Adler got into Clark and spun him around. The pile-up helped Renezeder and Ampudia to re-gain some positions, and after the pair of incidents, it was still MacCachren out front, followed now by Deegan, Renezeder, Ampudia, and Marty Hart. Deegan held his ground and put up a fight pulling off a 2nd place finish in Pro 2!
